中空玻璃有雙層和多層之分。可以根據要求選用各種不同性能的玻璃原片，如普通平板玻璃、壓花玻璃、彩色玻璃、夾絲玻璃等與邊框(金屬框架或玻璃條等)經膠接、焊接或熔接而制成。中空玻璃主要用于需要采暖、空調、防止噪聲或結露以及需要無直射陽光和特殊光的建筑物上。

中空玻璃可以與Low-E玻璃結合，更大地降低它的傳熱系數；與夾膠玻璃的結合，使其具有隔音、耐熱、防爆、防壓等特點。中空玻璃在我國及世界發達國家的高檔建筑中使用相當普遍，是現代人追求高品質生活的一種集中體現。

Insulated glass is divided into double layers glass and multi-layers glass, which are combined with frame (metal framework or glass strip etc.) by glue, welding or sintering process. Different property glass may be selected according to different requirement, such as : common plate glass, figured glass, stained glass, wire glass etc.

Insulated glass is mainly used in buildings with demand on heating, air conditioning, preventing noise or dew, as well as the buildings preventing direct sunlight and special light.
